How followly works
followly turns your past sessions into repeat bookings — automatically. Here's exactly what happens, from sign-up to the email landing in your client's inbox.
Updated June 2026
In one sentence: followly reads your Google Calendar to find past clients, then automatically emails each of them a personalised rebook reminder — from your address, at the right moment — so you stay top of mind without lifting a finger.
The four steps
1. Connect your calendar (or add clients manually)
Sign in with Google and give followly read-only access to your calendar. It scans your past events, identifies photography sessions, and imports them as clients with their dates. Prefer not to connect? You can add clients by hand — name, email, type, and date.
2. Each client gets a reminder type
Every client is tagged as Session, Anniversary, or Follow-up. The type decides which template followly uses and when the reminder is timed. Imported sessions are sorted for you; you can change any tag in one click.
3. Set your templates once
followly starts you with three warm, ready-to-send templates. Edit them in your own voice and drop in variables like the client’s name, event date, and your business name — followly fills them in for every send. You only do this once.
4. Reminders send themselves
Each morning followly checks who is due and sends their reminder automatically, from your reply-to address. Anniversaries reschedule for next year on their own. You’ll see each email in your sent folder — no spreadsheet, no manual chasing.
The three reminder types
followly keeps it simple with one taxonomy used everywhere:
- Session — a follow-up shortly after a shoot, while the experience is still fresh.
- Anniversary — a yearly nudge around the one-year mark, ideal for couples and growing families. It reschedules itself every year.
- Follow-up — a general check-in to keep older or returning clients warm.
What about privacy?
followly uses read-only Google Calendar access — it never writes to, edits, or deletes your events. Your Google access token is never stored in our database; it lives only in a short-lived encrypted cookie. Your client data is yours: export or delete it anytime, and we never sell or share it.
Quick answers
How does followly work?
followly connects to your Google Calendar (read-only), finds past photography sessions, and tags each client as a session, anniversary, or follow-up. You set three email templates once, and followly automatically sends a personalised reminder from your address at the right time before each event date.
Does followly send emails automatically?
Yes. Once your clients and templates are set, followly checks each morning who is due and sends their reminder on its own — from your reply-to address, in your voice. You can also send any reminder manually from your dashboard.
Does followly write to my Google Calendar?
No. followly uses read-only access. It reads event titles and dates to identify sessions but never creates, edits, or deletes anything on your calendar, and your access token is never stored in our database.
